2007-08 John Perrin is now in his seventh season as part of the Christopher Newport track coaching staff. His athletes have earned three All-America honors including last year's women's Indoor Shot Put National Champion.
A graduate of Concord (W.Va.) University, Perrin has coached high school track in the Tidewater area since 1983 and has worked with amateur track and field and other sports. He was track coach at Middlesex H.S. from 1983 until 1991 and won the 1987 State Group A Championship. His teams were also state runners-up in 1989, third place in 1985, regional champions in 1988 and regional runners-up in 1985. He became the head coach at Gloucester H.S. in 1991 and held the position until 2001. He won the school’s only Boys district championshipin 1997 since moving to Group AAA. During his distinguished career he has coached several state champions and numerous district and regional champions. He has received USA Track & Field Level 2 certification coaching throws.
